Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Hooked Goodies (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit hookedgoodies.com, how it is used, and the choices you have. In short: you can read the whole site without an account, we don't sell your personal information, and our ad and analytics partners use cookies as described below.

Information you give us

  • Contact form: your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply to you and keep them as long as needed to deal with your message.
  • Pattern submissions and “Get featured” forms: the links, answers and photos you send. We use them to review your submission and, if you agreed, to feature you. Photos sent with forms we decline are deleted automatically within about 30 days.

We don't have reader accounts, comments or a newsletter, so we don't collect anything else from you directly.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: like every website, our server (hosted by DigitalOcean) records technical details of each request, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to keep the site running and secure. These logs are kept for a short time.
  • Our own counters: we count clicks on pattern and shop links, use of our crochet tools, which posts and categories are read, how far down a post readers get, and Pinterest saves, as daily totals (for example “12 clicks from phones today”). These totals don't include IP addresses, cookies or anything that identifies you. We also measure page loading speed from a small sample of visits, again stored only as daily totals.
  • Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how visitors find us. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and how you arrived, and what you do on our pages (for example opening a pattern link or reading to the end of a post). See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites, to limit how often you see an ad, and to measure results.

  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ad Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.
  • Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's consent message before personalised ads or analytics cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy settings link at the bottom of every page.

Amazon affiliate links

Some pages link to products on Amazon. If you click one, Amazon may set cookies to know the visit came from us, so we can earn a commission on qualifying purchases. Amazon's handling of your information is covered by Amazon's own privacy notice.

Links to designers' websites

The patterns we feature live on the designers' own websites and on Ravelry. When you follow a “Get pattern” link you leave Hooked Goodies, and that site's own privacy policy applies.

Cookies and storage on this site

  • Reading pages on Hooked Goodies doesn't set any cookies of our own. Cookies on those pages come from Google (ads, the consent message and analytics) as described above.
  • Pages with a form (such as Contact) set a session cookie and a security cookie so the form can be sent safely. They expire when you close your browser or after a few hours.
  • Your browser may remember small preferences for the current tab, such as which pattern you opened last, so we can offer the next one when you come back. This stays on your device.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them; ads may be less relevant.

Sharing your information

We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the services that run the site for us (hosting, email delivery, Google and Amazon as described above), or when the law requires it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe and the UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Residents of California can opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising by declining personalised ads in the consent message or Google's Ad Settings. To make a request, contact us. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Hooked Goodies is a general audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Security and retention

The site uses HTTPS, and messages and submissions are stored on our own server with restricted access. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
